KOTA TINGGI: The Bar Council which is going to hold to the “Conversion to Islam” forum tomorrow should be ready to face the consequences as they have been cautioned against holding the forum, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar.
He said the police would be prepared to take any action against the council to maintain public order.
“They have been cautioned against organising the forum so they must face the consequences,” he said.
Syed Hamid was met by reporters after Solat Hajat and Tazkirah prayers organised by the Johor state police contingent at Masjid Jamek here tonight.
The forum has received strong opposition from top leaders of Umno, PAS and several other organisations.
The council’s vice-president Ragunath Kesavan said it would not dispute Article 121 (1A) nor question Islam and its status as enshrined in Article 3 of the Federal Constitution but the council’s concern was to address the issue of conflicts of laws facing families caught between separate the jurisdictions of the civil and Syariah courts. – Bernama
